Morocco’s Aerospace Industry Poised for Major Expansion with New Safran Group Complex

Nouaceur: Under the leadership of His Majesty the King, Morocco’s aerospace industry is set to undergo significant transformation with the launch of a new industrial complex by Safran Group. The facility, which will focus on aircraft engine assembly, testing, maintenance, and repair, is expected to elevate Morocco’s status in the global aerospace sector.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the complex was announced during a ceremony attended by His Majesty the King, where Industry Minister Mezzour highlighted its potential to propel Morocco to the forefront of technological innovation. This project, a collaboration between Morocco and Safran Group, is a testament to the latter’s long-standing partnership with the Kingdom, having contributed to Morocco’s aerospace platform over the past 25 years.

The first phase of the complex includes a maintenance and repair plant for aircraft engines, born out of an agreement signed by His Majesty King Mohammed VI and French President Emmanuel Macron in October 2024. With a projected maintenance capacity of 150 engines per year, the plant represents a MAD 1.3 billion investment and is expected to create 600 direct jobs by 2030.

Further advancing Morocco’s aerospace capabilities, the second project within the complex will focus on assembling and testing LEAP 1-A commercial aircraft engines, primarily used in Airbus A320 Neo models. This venture involves a MAD 2.1 billion investment, with an assembly capacity of 350 engines per year, generating 300 highly skilled jobs by 2029. As only the second production site for the Leap-1A engine globally, this initiative will enhance Morocco’s position in the international aircraft engine manufacturing value chain.

Minister Mezzour emphasized that the development of this world-class industrial complex aligns with the vision of His Majesty the King for Morocco’s sustainable industrial growth. Over the past two decades, under the King’s guidance, Morocco’s aerospace exports have surged from under MAD 1 billion in 2004 to over MAD 26 billion in 2024, attracting more than 150 industry players.

He further noted that the sector employs 25,000 skilled Moroccans, with women comprising 42% of the workforce, benefiting from top-notch training. The commitment to human capital and integrated training systems is central to the Kingdom’s industrial strategy, ensuring that the workforce meets the specific needs of emerging projects.

The Minister credited the success of Morocco’s aerospace industry to the Sovereign’s policies of economic openness and structural reforms, fostering a favorable business climate that attracts investment and creates jobs. With the establishment of facilities like Midparc, an aerospace-focused industrial platform, Morocco continues to solidify its standing as a competitive global player in cutting-edge industries.

As Morocco’s aerospace industry embarks on this new chapter, the vision and leadership of His Majesty the King remain pivotal in driving the nation’s industrial excellence and sustainable development.
