Tunis – Morocco’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and adapt to the effects of climate change were highlighted on Monday in Tunis at the Regional Forum for the Middle East and North Africa on Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs 3.0).
Speaking at the opening of the event, Amal Mellouk, from the Climate Change, Biodiversity and Green Economy Directorate at the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, stressed that Morocco, in line with the High Directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, was among the first countries to submit its nationally determined contribution.
In this regard, she explained that the Kingdom hopes to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 45.5% and reach 52% of its energy mix from renewable sources by 2030.
During the first day of this regional forum, participants launched a call to governments in the Middle East and North Africa to develop effective national policies and strategies to meet the challenges of climate change and international climate targets.
This regional forum brought together representatives from many Middle Eastern and North African countries to discuss ways of accelerating the implementation of the Paris Agreements.
