New york: Morocco is being recognized for its innovative approach in using sports as a tool for migration governance. The Senegalese Foreign Minister, Mr. Niang, praised Morocco’s efforts during a press briefing following his meeting with Nasser Bourita, Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Mr. Niang emphasized that Morocco’s commitment to promoting sports and respecting migrant dignity sets it apart as a model nation. He highlighted that several United Nations member states commend Morocco’s inclusive approach towards migrants.
Morocco took a significant step by organizing a high-level event titled “Harnessing the Power of Sport for Social Inclusion and Migration.” This event was held in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) alongside the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly. It served as a platform to emphasize the role of sports in fostering social cohesion, combating stigma, and promoting universal values such as tolerance, solidarity, and respect.
