Morocco’s Justice Minister Discusses Bolstering Justice Partnership with Dutch Peer


Rabat: Morocco’s Minister of Justice Abdellatif Ouahbi met Tuesday in Rabat with Minister of Justice of the Kingdom of the Netherlands David van Weel, who is on a working visit to Morocco at the head of a high-level delegation, to discuss bolstering strategic partnership in the field of justice.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, this meeting is part of the two countries’ commitment to elevate their relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership based on mutual trust and intensified cooperation and coordination in priority areas, in accordance with the Joint Declaration adopted on December 5, 2025, in The Hague.

On this occasion, the two parties reviewed the progress made in implementing key areas of bilateral cooperation and examined ways to further develop it, particularly with regard to strengthening judicial cooperation, modernizing the justice system, and exchanging expertise and best practices in judicial governance, the digitization of justice, and improving services provided to litigants.

The two ministers also discussed ways to reinforce cooperation in the security sector, particularly in the fight against terrorism and transnational organized crime, in accordance with the provisions of the Joint Declaration, which calls for regular bilateral dialogue in this area as well as establishing specialized institutional mechanisms, including a joint commission dedicated to counterterrorism.

Regarding immigration issues, Ouahbi and van Weel expressed their commitment to continuing their close coordination within the framework of the comprehensive and balanced approach adopted by both countries. They also spoke of strengthening technical cooperation, training programs, and the exchange of expertise, particularly within the framework of government cooperation programs, with a view to supporting skills development and the modernization of legal and judicial systems.

In this regard, Ouahbi emphasized that these talks provided an opportunity to strengthen coordination and the exchange of expertise with
the aim of developing the justice system and addressing common challenges, particularly those related to the fight against organized crime and terrorism.

In a statement to the press following these talks, the minister noted that cooperation between Morocco and the Netherlands extends to the civil sphere, particularly issues related to the family and women. The joint commission, to convene in the coming days, will examine these issues with a view to finding comprehensive solutions, he said, adding that another meeting could be held in Amsterdam or Rabat to conclude international agreements allowing effective handling of these issues.

In a similar statement, van Weel noted that this visit reflects deep ties between the Kingdoms of Morocco and the Netherlands, emphasizing how deeply his country values strengthening cooperation with Morocco. “Morocco and the Netherlands share the same desire to deepen their cooperation, particularly in the areas of justice and security,” the Dutch minister affirmed, calling for
coordinated efforts to combat organized crime networks, building on the positive momentum in bilateral cooperation.

According to him, this meeting provided an opportunity to explore ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation regarding the extradition of criminals and the prevention of cross-border crime. In a statement to the press following these talks, the minister noted that cooperation between Morocco and the Netherlands extends to the civil sphere, particularly issues related to the family and women.

At the close of this meeting, both parties reaffirmed their firm commitment to furthering the implementation of the Joint Declaration’s provisions and to exploring new avenues for cooperation, with a view to enshrining ties of friendship and partnership between Morocco and the Netherlands, strengthening legal and judicial security in the service of common interests, and supporting stability at the regional and international levels.

These talks are part of the sustained momentum in cooperation ties between t
he Kingdoms of Morocco and the Netherlands, as well as part of implementing the Joint Declaration inked between the two countries.
