Morocco’s Military Leaders Meet with USAFRICOM Commander to Enhance Bilateral Cooperation


Rabat: Morocco’s Loudyi and FAR Inspector General, Commander of the South Zone, recently received the Commander of the U.S. Africa Command (USAFRICOM) to discuss the enhancement of bilateral military cooperation between Morocco and the United States. On this occasion, the two officials welcomed the excellent ties between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States of America and the level of bilateral military cooperation. They also reiterated their mutual commitment to deepening the Moroccan-American partnership, put into practice by the defense cooperation roadmap 2020-2030, signed in Rabat on October 2, 2020. They reiterated the interest in bolstering military cooperation in new topics and encouraging the emergence of the defense industry in Morocco.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the meeting, held at the General Staff of the FAR, was led by Lieutenant General Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces and Commander of the South Zone, and General Dagvin Anderson, commander of
USAFRICOM. The discussions focused on modernizing and strengthening the FAR’s readiness and capabilities, as well as joint training efforts. The joint organization of the annual ‘African Lion’ exercise was highlighted as a prime example of the interoperability of the two countries’ forces.

During the meeting, the officials also addressed the regional situation and explored strategies to enhance security and stability in the area. The USAFRICOM commander praised the professionalism of the Royal Armed Forces and their pivotal role in fostering cooperation with African counterparts, promoting peace, and ensuring security.

The enduring and productive military ties between the FAR and the U.S. Armed Forces are rooted in the historical relationship between Morocco and the United States.
