Rabat: The Presidency of the Public Prosecution’s Office has called for concerted efforts to support the parliamentary elections scheduled for September 23 and ensure they are conducted smoothly, with respect for the law, probity, and fair competition.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the King’s public prosecutor at the cassation court and President of the Public Prosecution’s Office, Hicham Balaoui, issued a guidance note urging all public prosecution offices at the appeal and first-instance courts to take all necessary measures to monitor the various stages of the electoral process. Balaoui emphasized the importance of firm and rigorous action against any practices likely to undermine the integrity or transparency of the elections, ensuring that offenders found to have violated the law are held accountable.

Morocco’s top prosecutor also highlighted the need for swift and effective investigation of electoral complaints, enforcement of relevant deterrent legal provisions, and bringing law offenders before the courts for trial in accordance with the law. Judicial officials are required to inform the top prosecutor of any obstacles that could hinder the implementation of the guidance note, and legal services are expected to remain on duty throughout the electoral process.

The guidelines also emphasize the necessity of close coordination between regional and local cells within public prosecution offices and the Presidency of the Public Prosecution’s Office in addressing any potential violations. Balaoui stated that justice plays a crucial role in strengthening citizens’ trust in institutions and ensuring a secure electoral process, as stipulated under Article 11 of the Constitution, which establishes free, genuine, and transparent elections as the foundation of legitimate democratic representation.
