Rabat: Morocco’s Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance (DGSN-DGST) Abdellatif Hammouchi received General Luis Pel¡ez Pi±eiro, head of the Information Service at the Spanish Civil Guard, on Thursday at the headquarters of the General Directorate of National Security in Rabat. General Pel¡ez Pi±eiro is currently on a working visit to Morocco leading a high-level security delegation.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, this visit takes place against the backdrop of an advanced exemplary security partnership between the Hub and various Spanish security and intelligence services, which has become a model to follow in the fight against terrorism and various forms of transnational crime.
To crown this joint security partnership, the meeting featured a ceremony where prestigious Spanish decorations were awarded to several senior officials from the DGST and the DGSN, the same source notes.
These honors follow a decree issued by the Spanish Minister of the Interior, in recognition of the sustained efforts and remarkable contribution of these officials to bolstering operational cooperation and technical assistance with Spanish security authorities.
The presentation of high-level Spanish decorations embodies deep and strong strategic bonds between the Moroccan security services and their counterparts in the Spanish Civil Guard. It also reflects the Spanish side’s appreciation for the high level of professionalism shown by senior officials and staff of the DGSN-DGST Hub in addressing various cross-border security challenges and threats shared by both countries, the same source emphasizes.
This Spanish honor confirms yet again the excellent bilateral security cooperation model based on mutual trust and close coordination between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Kingdom of Spain, the statement continues.
Likewise, it illustrates the pioneering and central role played by Moroccan security services as a strategic and reliable partner in ensuring security and stability at the regional and international levels, particularly in the Mediterranean basin.
Quoted in the statement, General Luis Pel¡ez Pi±eiro praised, in a speech delivered for the occasion, the importance and strength of Morocco-Spain security cooperation, describing Morocco as a key strategic partner in the fight against terrorism and organized crime, given the complex security challenges facing the regional and international environment.
The Spanish official also emphasized that awarding these high honors to Moroccan security officials is a recognition of the efforts and sacrifices made to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the face of common challenges. It also expresses Spanish authorities’ gratitude for the level of excellence achieved by the partnership between the DGSN-DGST and the Spanish Civil Guard.
These new honors follow the awarding of the Grand Cross of Order of Merit of the Civil Guard-the highest distinction bestowed by that institution-to Hammouchi in Spain in November 2025. In 2014, he had received the Honorary Cross of Police Merit with Red Distinction, one of Spain’s most prestigious decorations, in recognition of his contribution to building an exemplary security partnership between Morocco and Spain, the statement notes.
