Arusha:Upper House Speaker Mohamed Ould Errachid engaged in discussions with the heads of legislative institutions from the Republic of Maldives, the Kingdom of Lesotho, and the Republic of Djibouti. The meetings aimed to enhance parliamentary cooperation and strengthen bilateral relationships. These discussions occurred during the 153rd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Arusha, Tanzania, which focuses on promoting good governance and empowering communities through inclusion and trust.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Ould Errachid, in his meeting with Abdul Raheem Abdulla, President of the People’s Majlis of the Republic of Maldives, emphasized Morocco’s dedication to South-South cooperation under the leadership of King Mohammed VI. He expressed a desire to collaborate in fields such as the blue economy, sustainable tourism, renewable energy, climate change counteraction, health, agriculture, and religious training.
Abdulla conveyed the Maldives’ interest in fortifying ties with the Moroccan Parliament through exchanges of visits and practices. He announced plans to form a Maldives-Morocco parliamentary friendship group and signed a joint parliamentary declaration to establish a framework for sustainable cooperation, including dialogue, capacity building, and parliamentary visits.
In talks with Mamonaheng Mokitimi, President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Lesotho, Ould Errachid highlighted the potential in the countries’ relations, referencing a 2019 memorandum of cooperation. Mokitimi stressed activating this memorandum and exploring implementation methods, appreciating the ongoing collaboration.
During discussions with Dileita Mohamed Dileita, President of the National Assembly of Djibouti, Ould Errachid underscored the deep connections between the nations. He pointed out the significance of a signed MoU for dialogue and joint actions, encouraging participation in initiatives like the Marrakech Parliamentary Economic Forum. Dileita affirmed Djibouti’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation across various areas, commending Morocco’s support for African countries through its hosted initiatives.
