Rabat: Speaking on behalf of Morocco during the general debate of the 16th United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD16), Mezzour stressed that the world is currently facing multiple economic crises and unprecedented disruptions that disproportionately affect developing countries. In this context, Africa lies at the epicenter of these difficulties, despite being endowed with abundant natural resources and a dynamic youth, he said, noting that global crises, climate shocks, and persistent inequalities continue to weigh heavily on the continent.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the minister outlined several key pillars essential for tackling today’s global issues, including economic diversification, reforming the global financial architecture to achieve shared development, sustainability as a pathway to prosperity, and the strengthening of multilateralism through regional and international partnerships. With its strategic location at the crossroads of Africa, Europe, and the Atlantic, the Kingdom of Morocco naturally positions itself as a bridge between North and South while further consolidating South-South partnerships, he said. The minister also shared Morocco’s firm belief in win-win cooperation and in the need for fair international trade, which benefits all.
Mezzour highlighted the structural reforms undertaken by Morocco under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, particularly in the renewable energy and industrial sectors. These reforms, accompanied by the modernization of infrastructure, have enabled the Kingdom to become a key player on the international scene, he said.
Through projects such as the Royal Atlantic Initiative and the development of the Dakhla Atlantic Port, Morocco is working towards a more connected and resilient Africa by supporting cooperation in energy, food, and logistics security between Africa and the rest of the world, Mezzour concluded.
