Nador West Med Port Launch Strengthens Morocco’s Role in Global Trade

Nador:The operations at the "East" container terminal of the Port of Nador West Med have commenced, marking a significant development in Morocco's position in international trade. Reda Moukhli, Director of Development at Marsa Maroc, highlighted the importance of this launch in aligning with the Royal Vision to bolster Morocco's trade presence.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the launch took place in the Iaazzanene Commune (Nador province) under the leadership of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, following the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. This event marks the first operational step of the Nador West Med industrial-port complex.

Moukhli emphasized that this development is a pivotal moment for Marsa Maroc, as the new port is set to become a key container transshipment hub in the Western Mediterranean. Marsa Maroc, in collaboration with its partners MSC/Terminal Investment Limited and CMA CGM, will manage the port's two container terminals.

The new infrastructure is expected to increase Marsa Maroc's handling capacity significantly, from 3 million to 9 million TEUs by 2030. Furthermore, Marsa Maroc plans to operate a terminal for general cargo starting in 2029 to support the growth of the planned industrial zone.
