Manama, The National Audit Office (NAO) chaired the first coordination meeting of the Group of Supreme Audit Institutions responsible for reformulating the terminology used in writing and translating international auditing standards issued by the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI).
The Steering Committee of the Professional Standards Committee (PSC) of INTOSAI selected the NAO to lead the team for this project as part of the strategic development plan for 2023-2028.
The meeting included representatives from the NAO, Ahmed Mohamed Buti, Director of Regularity Audit, and Abrar Hassan Alsaegh, Audit Supervisor at the Regularity Audit Directorate, along with representatives from Sweden, Norway, Australia, France, Poland, South Africa, and Morocco, as well as members from the PSC of INTOSAI and the Forum for INTOSAI Professional Pronouncements (FIPP). The Group comprises members from 16 states.
The virtual meeting reviewed the NAO’s initiative submitted to the Arab Organization o
f Supreme Audit Institutions (ARABOSAI) on standardising terminology used in translating international auditing standards into Arabic and explored how to benefit from the Arab experience in this reformulation.
Additionally, it discussed the NAO’s proposed mechanism for implementing this initiative, emphasising that the terminology in the international auditing standards issued by INTOSAI should be consistent and comprehensible to ensure ease of application by Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) worldwide.
The attendees agreed that the NAO would review the implementation plan of the initiative at the next FIPP meeting in Bulgaria next month.
