The ongoing attacks by settlers against Palestinian civilians and their properties in the occupied West Bank, demolition of Palestinian-owned structures under the pretext of construction without a permit, as well as police harassing a memorial event in Jerusalem for a late Palestinian leader were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today. Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida dailies said in their main front-page story headline that the settlers are continuing their attacks against Palestinians in several areas of the occupied West Bank, causing damage to property and panic among people. They also said the Israeli bulldozers demolished structures in Silwan neighborhood of occupied East Jerusalem claiming building without a permit. The third daily, al-Quds, said in its main front-page story that Israeli police raided the Orient House in occupied East Jerusalem while a memorial event was underway marking the 22nd anniversary of the death of the Palestinian leader Faisal Husseini and removed pictures of Husseini, a Jerusalemite figure and leader who died of a heart attack while abroad, and harassed those present at the event. The paper also reported on the settlers’ attacks and demolitions. The three dailies also reported on their front page about the signing of agreements between Palestine and Egypt in Cairo during a ministerial visit to the north African country headed by Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh. Al-Quds said that Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh received an invitation to visit Cairo to discuss the current issues. It also said that while the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) insists that Israel assassinated five of its fighters in an attack on a base east of Lebanon, Israel denies any involvement. The story, from the French news agency AFP, also quoted an unnamed Lebanese security source saying that a missile exploded at the base and killed the five PFLP fighters. Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported on the Israeli denial of the release of the cancer-stricken Palestinian prisoner Walid Daqqa and said this is a green light to kill him. It also said the East Jerusalem Palestinian governorate briefed US and European diplomats on the crimes of the Israeli occupiers in the Holy City. It said the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization has decided to keep an open meeting to discuss the issue of the striking employees at the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). Al-Ayyam quoted the foreign ministry saying that it succeeded in evacuating the last batch of Palestinian citizens from war-torn Sudan. It said the Palestinians in Israel have concluded their activity at the Israeli government complex in West Jerusalem to highlight the rise in crime in Arab society and police apathy.
