ONDE and UNESCO Collaborate to Enhance Educational Rights in Morocco

Morocco: Morocco’s National Observatory for the Rights of the Child (ONDE), chaired by Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Meryem, and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) have formalized a partnership agreement to advance initiatives promoting the right to education in Morocco. The agreement was signed in Rabat by ONDE Vice-President Ghizlane Benjelloun and Director of the UNESCO Regional Office Charaf Ahmimed.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the signed agreement aims to implement the project “Assess to Transform: The Right to Education in Morocco.” This initiative aligns with the High Royal Guidelines of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, focusing on a systematic analysis of the legal framework and national public policies’ alignment with Morocco’s international commitments regarding education rights.

The project aims to strengthen national capacities in rights-based analysis and develop a coherent, prioritized, and operational roadmap to support ongoing educational sector reforms. Additional actions, such as training sessions for national stakeholders, may complement the project’s implementation.

ONDE and UNESCO aim to contribute to the effective realization of educational rights by integrating a child rights-based approach into public policies. The partnership also seeks to position Morocco as a pilot country for self-assessment in the region.
