Palestinian detainee suspends hunger strike against unfair detention

Palestinian detainee Ameen Jarab'a suspended today his hunger strike which lasted for 11 days in protest of his detention without charge or trial, after being reassured by the occupying authorities his current administrative detention order will not be renewed. Jarab'a, a resident of the town of Baytin in the occupied West Bank, was arrested by the Israeli occupation forces in December 2023, and has been placed under administrative detention, without charge or trial, ever since. His current detention order is due to end on August 26. Israel's widely condemned policy of administrative detention allows the detention of Palestinians without charge or trial for renewable intervals usually ranging between three and six months based on undisclosed evidence that even a detainee's lawyer is barred from viewing. Amnesty International, has described Israel's administrative detention policy as a 'cruel, unjust practice which helps maintain Israel's system of apartheid against Palestinians.'
