Parlacen Endorses Morocco’s Territorial Integrity, Advocates Autonomy Plan as Sole Resolution to Sahara Dispute

Guatemala city: During a meeting on Wednesday in Guatemala City with Ahmed Lakhrif, representative of Morocco’s House of Councillors to Parlacen, and deputies Hayat Laaraych and Abdelali Barouki, representatives of the House of Representatives, Hern¡ndez stated that this decision, which received majority support in June in El Salvador in the presence of the Speaker of the House of Councillors, Mohamed Ould Errachid, derives its legitimacy from the vote of the General Assembly, the supreme decision-making body of this regional parliamentary institution.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, a communiqu© from the Moroccan House of Councillors indicated that Hern¡ndez recalled that the visit to Morocco, including Laayoune, allowed the Parlacen delegation members to observe the scope of development efforts in the region across economic and social domains, as reflected in the “Laayoune Declaration”, co-signed by the Parlacen President and the Speaker of the House of Councillors.

He also expressed deep gratitude for the support provided by the Moroccan Parliament to Parlacen’s institutional work, recalling forums organized this year in partnership with the House of Councillors, including the Regional Migration Forum in the Dominican Republic, the Economic Forum in Panama, the Regional Women’s Forum in Honduras, and the Regional Development and Investment Forum in El Salvador.

For their part, the Moroccan parliamentary delegation members expressed appreciation for the noble and fraternal positions taken by Parlacen regarding Morocco’s territorial unity and sovereignty, which align with the broader international support for Morocco’s autonomy plan – the only realistic, serious, and credible proposal for a definitive resolution of the artificial regional conflict over the Moroccan Sahara.

They also emphasized that the Moroccan Parliament’s priority in strengthening and consolidating relations with national, regional, and continental parliaments in Latin America and the Caribbean aligns with the Kingdom’s strategic choice to support and enhance South-South cooperation, under the guidance of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
