Rabat:Members of both Houses of Parliament have expressed high praise for the Royal Office statement released on October 30, following the UN Security Council meeting concerning the Moroccan Sahara issue. The statement and Moroccan diplomatic efforts aim to conclusively resolve this longstanding conflict.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, during a joint plenary session, parliamentarians emphasized the strategic shift in the approach to the conflict, moving from management to transformation of its parameters. The non-renewal of Minurso's mandate after 35 years is seen as a historic milestone, indicating the end of its presence in the region. They also commended Morocco's commitment to a ceasefire and its resolve to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Parliamentarians highlighted the significant role of the Royal Vision in transforming the Moroccan Sahara issue. They noted Royal Diplomacy's sound vision and consistent positions have consolidated achievements and expanded international support for Morocco's autonomy initiative under its sovereignty. The support was evident in the vote of 11 countries in favor of the latest draft resolution, reflecting increased backing for Morocco's stance.
The session underscored the momentum following UN Security Council Resolution 2797 and the institution of Unity Day by King Mohammed VI. The resolution establishes the autonomy initiative as the sole basis for resolving the dispute, supported by over two-thirds of UN member states and major powers. Parliamentarians stressed the importance of consolidating diplomatic and development gains by strengthening national cohesion and promoting social justice.
Furthermore, they urged Algeria to assume responsibilities regarding the situation in the Tindouf camps, recalling Morocco's policy of reconciliation and facilitating the return of camp residents. They noted that Morocco's national position is bolstered by development in the Southern Provinces, driven by the New Development Model initiated by King Mohammed VI in 2015.
Parliamentarians praised major projects like the Tiznit-Dakhla expressway, the Dakhla Atlantic Port, and the Atlantic African Gas Pipeline. They expressed admiration for the dedication of the Royal Armed Forces and other security entities in defending the nation's territorial integrity under the leadership of King Mohammed VI.
