Manama: Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs, participated in the High-level Ministerial Meeting in Support of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The meeting was chaired by Ayman Safadi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs of Jordan, and Maria Steinergaard, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden, with the participation of António Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations, and Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner General of UNRWA.
The meeting highlighted the role of UNRWA in supporting Palestinian refugees and emphasised the need to mobilise international support to ensure it can continue providing services to over 5.9 million Palestinian refugees.
The meeting called on the international community to fulfil its obligations by implem
enting relevant United Nations resolutions, particularly those concerning the cessation of hostilities and the protection of civilians and civilian objects.
The participants underscored the importance of financial and political backing to enable UNRWA and its partners to fulfil their humanitarian duties without restriction. This represents the international community’s commitment to upholding international law and advancing a just solution for the Palestinian cause.
