Premier Shtayyeh: Israel interested in deterioration of situation to further undermine PA

Premier Mohammad Shtayyeh today stated that Israel was interested in the deterioration of the situation as a means to further undermine the Palestinian Authority (PA). Speaking during a meeting with a delegation of the Elders, led by former Irish President Mary Robinson, at the Premier’s Office in the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah, Shtayyeh said that Israel continues to renege on all agreements it has concluded and inflicts the most horrendous forms of collective punishment on the Palestinian people. The meeting was attended by former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. Premier Shtayyeh added that Israel, the occupying power, has an interest in a constantly deteriorating situation as a means to further weaken the PA and destroy the two-state solution. He briefed the visiting delegation on the latest developments on the Palestinian arena and urged them to call on Israel to halt its unilateral measures and abide by all signed agreements, including with regards to stopping colonial settlement construction. He pointed that the current fascist Israeli government was adopting Jewish fundamentalist Zionism, whose manifestations include Israeli government officials calling on Israelis to take up arms against Palestinians and shoot to kill, reinforcing settler-colonialism, returning to the sites of the formerly evacuated settlements in the northern West Bank, daily incursions which amount to a re-occupation of the West Bank and targeting the holy sites in Jerusalem.
