The Palestinian Presidency today welcomed the Madrid Statement, which affirmed that a two-state solution is the only way to achieve lasting peace and security.
The Presidency praised the statement issued by representatives of the Joint Ministerial Contact Group from the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, including Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, as well as the foreign ministers and representatives from Ireland, Norway, Slovenia, and Spain.
This group convened today in Madrid, emphasizing their unwavering commitment to the two-state solution in accordance with international law and relevant United Nations resolutions. They called for serious efforts toward implementing a political solution that ends the occupation and establishes an independent Palestinian state.
The Presidency noted that this statement aligns with its consistent demand for the urgent implementation of the two-state solution, an immediate halt to Israeli aggression, the withdrawal of I
sraeli occupation forces from Gaza, the delivery of aid, and the prevention of displacement.
The Presidency underscored that the courageous stances expressed by the participants in Madrid highlight the international consensus on the need to stop ongoing aggression against the Palestinian people from Rafah to Jenin, halt the horrific massacres faced by the Palestinian people, and implement the International Court of Justice’s advisory opinion on the Palestinian issue.
Additionally, the participants called for enabling the Palestinian government to fulfill its duties in Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and for establishing a political path based on international legitimacy leading to the end of occupation and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
