NEW YORK: President Mahmoud Abbas has met with Kuwaiti Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
During the meeting, the two leaders discussed ways to enhance the historic brotherly relations between their countries and explore avenues for development across various fields to benefit both peoples. They also addressed several mutual interests.
President Abbas provided an update on the latest developments in Palestine, emphasizing ongoing efforts to engage all parties in halting the widespread Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza.
He called for the expedited delivery of humanitarian aid and the withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from Gaza, while also urging an end to the daily assaults by occupation forces and extremist settlers in the West Bank and Jerusalem.
He emphasized the importance of uniting efforts to garner support for Palestine’s bid for full membership in the United Nations
and to gain further recognition of the State of Palestine.
The President also urged the international community to act in accordance with the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice and the UN General Assembly’s calls for an end to the occupation and colonialism, enabling the Palestinian people to achieve freedom in their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Furthermore, he addressed the difficult economic and financial conditions facing the State of Palestine due to ongoing aggression and Israel’s withholding of Palestinian tax funds, which has severely impacted the Palestinian economy and government operations.
In response, the Kuwaiti Crown Prince reaffirmed his country’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people, advocating for their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
President Abbas arrived in New York on Friday evening to participate in the UN General Assembly sessi
ons and is scheduled to deliver Palestine’s address to the assembly on Thursday, September 26.
