President Abbas meets South African leader on sidelines of Cairo Peace Summit

President Mahmoud Abbas met today with the South African leader Cyril Ramaphosa on the sidelines of the Cairo Peace Summit, hosted by Egypt, and discussed with him the latest developments in Palestine and the need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. During the meeting, they discussed the latest developments in Palestine and the ongoing efforts to halt the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, protect civilians from the war, and the urgent need to send medical and food relief supplies, as well as to ensure access to water and electricity, to Gaza. The President thanked South Africa for its positions in support of the Palestinian cause in all international forums, and for standing by our people in their legitimate struggle until the establishment of their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital. President Abbas stressed Palestine's unwavering rejection of the idea of forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza, the West Bank, or Jerusalem. He emphasized that peace and security can only be achieved through the implementation of the two-state solution based on international legitimacy resolutions, which call for the recognition of the State of Palestine on the all of the territories of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip. President Abbas expressed his gratitude to Spain for its supportive stance for a political solution based on the two-state framework and international legitimacy.
