Prisoners Linked to Gdeim Izik Events Held Under Normal Conditions, Says Prison Administration

Laayoune:The General Administration for Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR) has stated that individuals detained in connection with the Gdeim Izik events are being held under normal conditions and are receiving necessary health care.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, this statement was issued in response to concerns raised by the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) and the World Organisation Against Torture (OMCT) regarding an alleged hunger strike by eight inmates and issues related to their detention conditions and health.

The DGAPR clarified that only five inmates are currently on a hunger strike, contrary to reports of eight. It noted that six inmates initially declared their intention to strike, but by September 30, one had ended his strike. The administration emphasized that the inmates are under continuous medical supervision and receive institutional visits as required by law.

In relation to their transfer requests, inmate B. K was moved from Tiflet 2 to Laayoune local prison after meeting transfer criteria. Other inmates, such as N. A and H. D, were also transferred to different facilities for various reasons, including personal requests and disciplinary actions.

The DGAPR criticized FIDH and OMCT for relying on inaccurate data from sources opposed to the Kingdom’s territorial integrity. It urged human rights organizations to ensure objectivity and accuracy in their reports.
