Qatar expresses regret over failure of UNSC to adopt Algerian resolution on Gaza

NEW York: Speaking on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council at UNSC, Qatar's Ambassador Alya Ahmed Saif Al-Thani expressed regret at the failure of the Security Council to adopt the resolution submitted by Algeria on Gaza. Addressing the UN Security Council meeting on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question, Qatar's Ambassador called on the UN to assume its responsibilities and condemn the Israeli threat of unleashing its military operation in Rafah. She said that more than a million displaced are sheltering in Rafah with nowhere else to run to. 'We are living the worst humanitarian disaster the world has ever seen,' she said. 'We also condemn the forced displacement of civilians and regret the suspension of the financing of UNRWA,' she added. Qatar will continue facilitating efforts to protect civilians in Gaza and to secure a ceasefire, stressed the Qatari Ambassador. Source: Palestine news and Information Agency – WAFA
