Rabat: Heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, snowfall, and strong gusts of wind are anticipated from Thursday to Saturday across several provinces in Morocco, according to the Directorate General of Meteorology (DGM).
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the provinces of Larache, Ouazzane, Tangier-Assilah, T©touan, Chefchaouen, and Al Hocema are expected to experience heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, with precipitation levels estimated between 50-70 mm, starting from 6 p.m. on Thursday until 3 p.m. on Friday. An orange weather alert has been issued for these regions by the DGM.
Additionally, the provinces of MDiq-Fnideq, Fahs-Anjra, Taounate, Taza, Sidi Kacem, and K©nitra are forecasted to receive 40-50 mm of rain during the same period. Meanwhile, areas such as B©ni Mellal, Ifrane, Kh©nifra, Berrechid, Mediouna, Casablanca, Benslimane, Settat, Skhirate-Temara, Sal©, Safi, El Jadida, Sidi Bennour, Mohammedia, Nouaceur, Rabat, Essaouira, Agadir-Ida-Ou-Tanane, Taroudant, and Chtouka-At Baha will experience heavy rain, locally thundery, with expected precipitation between 25 – 40mm.
The DGM also forecasts snowfall, with accumulations reaching up to 50 cm above 1,800 meters, from 9 p.m. on Thursday to 10 a.m. on Saturday in the provinces of Azilal, Ifrane, and Al Hocema. Other regions, including Taroudant, Midelt, Tinghir, Sefrou, Chichaoua, Khenifra, Beni Mellal, Taza, Ouarzazate, Al Haouz, Guercif, and Boulemane, will experience snowfall up to 30 cm above 2,000 meters from Thursday at 9 p.m. to Saturday at 6 a.m.
Strong wind gusts ranging from 70-85 km/h are expected to affect the provinces of Fahs-Anjra, Larache, Tangier-Assilah, Tetouan, MDiq-Fnideq, Rabat, Skhirate-Temara, K©nitra, Sal©, Nouaceur, M©diouna, Casablanca, Mohammedia, Berrechid, Benslimane, Sidi Bennour, El Jadida, Safi, and Essaouira from 4 p.m. on Thursday until 9 a.m. on Friday.
The same wind phenomenon will impact the provinces of Chefchaouen, Al Hoceima, Jerada, Nador, Driouch, Oujda-Angad, Taourirt, Guercif, El Hajeb, F¨s, Moulay Yacoub, Mekn¨s, Berkane, Ifrane, Boulemane, Sefrou, Taza, Kh©nifra, Midelt, and Figuig from Thursday at 4 p.m. to Friday at 7 p.m., as concluded by the DGM.
