Ras El Ma Local Prison Administration in Fez Refutes Torture Allegations Made by Detainee’s Lawyer

In a clarification, the local prison administration explained that the aforementioned prisoner left the room where he was attending classes in a vocational training course to go to the toilet, noting that he was wandering in the corridor refusing to return to class, which prompted an official to intervene to force him to return to the classroom.

However, the official was surprised to see himself attacked by the inmate who tried to beat him up by violently grabbing him by his uniform, reports the prison administration.

Following this incident, a disciplinary board of the institution met and decided to place the prisoner in solitary confinement for a period of thirty days, notes the statement.

The administration noted that the prisoner in question is known for his bad behavior, recalling that he has already been subject to six offenses in the Tetouan local prison, before being transferred to the Ras El Ma local prison in Fez.

It added that although he had been allowed to enroll in one of the vocational training courses to encourage him to improve his behavior, he preferred to persist in his aggressive attitude towards the institution’s officials, noting that the aforementioned disciplinary procedure is in full compliance with the law governing the prisons.

Regarding the lawyer’s allegations about breaching confidentiality of his exchanges with his client, the administration states that these are false allegations, stressing that the lawyer’s exchanges with the prisoner took place in compliance with the legal provisions on the matter.

In this context, the institution administration vigorously denounces these gratuitous and irresponsible accusations, while emphasizing that it will continue to ensure the application of the laws and regulations in force.
