Rabat: Twenty-six people were killed and 2,786 injured, 103 of them seriously, in the 2,140 road accidents that occurred in urban areas on January 06-12, according to the General Directorate for National Security (DGSN).
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, these accidents were mainly due to drivers’ inattention, failure to give priority, speeding, and failure to keep a safe distance, DGSN pointed out in a press release.
Regarding the control and enforcement of traffic violations, the security services issued 52,919 tickets, submitted 9,241 reports to the public prosecutor’s office, and collected 43,678 transactional fines totaling MAD 9.6 million, according to the same source.
The DGSN also reported the impoundment of 5,395 vehicles, the withdrawal of 9,241 driving licenses, and the immobilization of 274 vehicles.
