Road Accidents Claim 37 Lives in Morocco’s Urban Areas over Past Week


Rabat: Road accidents in urban areas across Morocco have resulted in the loss of 37 lives over the past week. These incidents have been attributed to a range of factors including driver inattention, failure to yield the right of way, speeding, and failure to maintain a safe distance. Other causes include pedestrian inattention, loss of vehicle control, failure to stop at stop signs, changing direction without signaling, unauthorized changes of direction, driving in the wrong direction, running red lights, drunk driving, driving in the left lane, and improper passing.



According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, efforts to control and enforce traffic regulations have led to the issuance of 52,045 contraventions. Furthermore, 8,017 reports were submitted to the public prosecutor’s office. In terms of financial penalties, 44,028 fines were paid, amounting to MAD 9,781,550.



Additionally, enforcement actions resulted in the impoundment of 4,974 vehicles. Authorities also withdrew 8,017 documents and immobilized 511 vehicles, the press concludes.
