Rabat: Thirty-eight people were killed and 2,867 others injured, including 157 seriously, in 2,002 traffic accidents recorded in urban areas between May 25 and 31, according to the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN).
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, these accidents were mainly due to driver inattention, failure to yield the right of way, speeding, failure to maintain a safe distance, pedestrian inattention, loss of vehicle control, failure to stop at stop signs, changing direction without signaling, unauthorized changes of direction, driving in the wrong direction, running red lights, drunk driving, driving in the left lane, and improper passing, the DGSN said in a press release.
Regarding traffic control and enforcement operations, the same source noted that security services recorded 43,450 contraventions, drew up 7,871 reports submitted to the public prosecutor’s office, and collected 35,669 settlement fines.
