Rabat: The Gambia, through its Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Gambians Abroad, Sering Modou Njie, reiterated on Wednesday in Rabat its consistent support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara, keenly welcoming the adoption by the United Nations Security Council of Resolution 2797 which consolidates the autonomy Initiative as the only solution for the settlement of this regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the Gambian minister expressed his country’s endorsement of the UN Security Council resolution during a joint press briefing with Nasser Bourita, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates. The resolution is seen as a significant step in affirming Morocco’s claims over the Sahara.
In his statement, Sering Modou Njie reaffirmed The Gambia’s unwavering support for the Moroccan autonomy Initiative. He emphasized that this plan remains the sole viable solution to the ongoing regional dispute concerning the Moroccan Sahara.
