Washington: President Donald Trump has announced that any civil nuclear agreement between the United States and Saudi Arabia will be contingent upon Saudi Arabia’s participation in the Abraham Accords, while also ensuring that there will be no uranium enrichment involved.

According to TRTworld.com, the agreement reached between the US and Saudi Arabia aims to allow the kingdom to enrich uranium and construct nuclear reactors with the help of US technology. This move is notable for not requiring the snap United Nations inspections that the US has historically demanded from Iran.

In a Truth Social post on Thursday, Trump stated, “The Civil Nuclear Deal (There will be no enrichment of material!)… pertains only to non-military use such as the ones that Iran and UAE (and others) already have, will be approved, but is totally subject to Saudi Arabia joining the very respected and successful Abraham Accords.” The Accords focus on normalizing relations with Israel, and Trump emphasized that the United States is n
ot opposed to civil (non-enriched) nuclear facilities.

Saudi Arabia has consistently maintained that it will not join the Abraham Accords without a clear agreement on a roadmap toward Palestinian statehood. During Trump’s first term, Washington brokered the Abraham Accords to facilitate the normalization of relations between Israel and several Arab nations. The United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Morocco have signed the accords, while Sudan’s accession is still pending.
