Casablanca: The United States diplomatic mission in Morocco held a ceremony on Tuesday evening to mark the closure of the historic Dar America building in the Gauthier district of Casablanca. The U.S. Consulate will soon relocate to a new facility in Casa Finance City, which will host a modern version of Dar America. For more than eight decades, Dar America has served several generations of Moroccans, and this transition marks an important milestone as the United States and Morocco celebrate 250 years of partnership.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, alumni, leaders, teachers, former staff members, and members attended the closing ceremony to pay tribute to the legacy of Dar America, a symbol of cultural exchange, education, and innovation. Since its establishment at Place Bel Air in Casablanca in the mid-20th century, Dar America has been much more than a cultural center. It has served as a bridge connecting Moroccan youth, professionals, and families to the values, opportunities, and spirit of the United States.
From its beginnings as a residence for American consular officers in the 1940s to its transformation into a dynamic center for American cultural learning, STEM education (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), and EducationUSA advising in the 1970s, Dar America has played a central role in strengthening mutual understanding and respect between Morocco and the United States.
As highlighted during the ceremony, Dar America’s impact is deeply rooted in the historical fabric of Casablanca. The center has hosted thousands of events, workshops, and fairs, including initiatives in the creative industries and programs for skills development and employability. It has provided a direct point of contact with the United States, inspiring generations to explore new ideas, embrace innovation, and build lasting friendships.
The ceremony was marked by testimonials from local partners and former Moroccan participants in exchange programs in the United States, who highlighted the role of Dar America in promoting STEM, education, and cultural dialogue. Participants shared stories about how Dar America helped shape their careers, broaden their horizons, and strengthen bonds of friendship between Morocco and the United States.
