UN-Sahara: Micronesia Reiterates Support for Morocco’s Autonomy Initiative


New york: “Micronesia reaffirms its principled support for Morocco’s Autonomy proposal” as ‘serious and credible foundation for resolution, consistent with Security Council guidance and the imperative of national unity’, Micronesia Representative underlined before the 4th Committee of the United Nations’ General Assembly.



According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the Micronesia Representative commended Morocco’s substantial investments in the Southern Provinces, highlighting advancements in infrastructure, renewable energy, and local governance. These efforts, she noted, reflect a commitment to inclusive development and improved living conditions in the Moroccan Sahara.



The diplomat emphasized that Micronesia acknowledges the socio-economic and democratic progress achieved in the region. She expressed support for the political process conducted under the exclusive auspices of the United Nations and praised the efforts of the Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy to the Moroccan Sahara. She urged all parties involved to engage constructively and in good faith in this process.



The representative concluded by stating that a just and final resolution to the issue would reinforce stability in the Maghreb and Sahel regions and strengthen prospects for regional cooperation and integration.
