UNSC Resolution on Moroccan Sahara Highlights King Mohammed VI’s Leadership

Rabat: A recent United Nations Security Council resolution has been described as an affirmation of King Mohammed VI’s leadership and forward-looking vision in resolving the Moroccan Sahara issue. This perspective was shared by Belgian legal expert Li©nard, who spoke to MAP.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Li©nard emphasized the pivotal role of King Mohammed VI, highlighting the Sovereign’s wisdom, courage, and reliance on history and dialogue in addressing the Sahara conflict. He noted that the resolution was a direct result of the King’s unwavering efforts to promote the autonomy initiative under Moroccan sovereignty to the international community.

Li©nard, who is also a lawyer and honorary deputy judge, described the resolution as a “historic turning point,” suggesting that Morocco could lead the way in reshaping international law on fairer and more humane grounds. He also pointed out that the resolution received support from eleven out of fifteen UN Security Council member States, which he believes reinforces Morocco’s historical and legitimate claims over its southern provinces.

The legal expert concluded by stating that the resolution represents a victory for justice and international law, illustrating a triumph of heart and reason over narrow geopolitical interests.
