Rabat: Upper House Speaker Ould Errachid recently convened with ambassadors from the Asia-Pacific region accredited to Morocco, marking a significant step towards enhancing parliamentary cooperation. In a press release, the House of Councillors highlighted that this meeting served as a platform for exchanging views on strengthening partnerships, sharing legislative expertise, and fostering South-South parliamentary dialogue.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Ould Errachid emphasized Morocco’s strategic choice to engage with the Asia-Pacific region under the leadership of King Mohammed VI. This engagement underscores Morocco’s commitment to diverse international partnerships and its dedication to South-South cooperation, solidarity, peace, and shared growth.
The discussions also highlighted the importance of strengthening bilateral and multilateral parliamentary cooperation with Asia-Pacific countries. Ould Errachid lauded these nations for their institutional expertise in areas such as development, innovation, economic cooperation, social justice, clean energy, and climate change mitigation.
Ould Errachid expressed the House’s readiness to enhance communication, facilitate parliamentary visits, and activate coordination on mutual concerns, noting that parliamentary diplomacy is crucial for fostering dialogue between cultures and civilizations.
The ambassadors from the Asia-Pacific region commended Morocco’s development achievements and the dynamism of its institutions. They expressed a keen interest in enhancing cooperation with the House of Councillors, particularly in the fields of green economy, education, innovation, and sustainable development.
The meeting was attended by the group’s dean, Saulekul Sailaukyzy, Ambassador of Kazakhstan, along with ambassadors from the Philippines, Azerbaijan, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Australia, India, Japan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Indonesia.
