Rabat: Morocco’s Upper House Speaker, Mohamed Ould Errachid, welcomed the President of the Mercosur Parliament, Rodrigo Gamarra, along with a high-ranking parliamentary delegation on Monday as part of their working visit to the Kingdom. The meeting underscored the deepening cooperative ties between Morocco and Latin American countries.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Ould Errachid emphasized Morocco’s commitment to fostering South-South cooperation under the leadership of King Mohammed VI. He highlighted the importance of dialogue to serve mutual interests and promote closer relations between the peoples of these regions. A significant focus of the discussions was on the activation of the Morocco-Latin America Parliamentary Economic Forum, aiming to build a strategic partnership.
Ould Errachid pointed out Morocco’s strategic advantages, including its position as a gateway to Europe, Africa, and the Arab world. He noted the Kingdom’s ongoing structural reforms, a favorable business environment, and modern infrastructure, which collectively position Morocco as a promising platform for collaborative investment.
Furthermore, Ould Errachid referenced the Atlantic Initiative launched by King Mohammed VI, which seeks to enhance economic and logistical integration, promote sustainable development, and ensure regional stability through South-South cooperation.
Gamarra recognized Morocco’s influence on both regional and international stages, commending the Kingdom’s modernization and infrastructural development efforts under King Mohammed VI’s leadership. He expressed eagerness to bolster cooperation with the Moroccan Parliament through enhanced visits and knowledge exchange, especially in economic and trade domains.
The meeting concluded with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the House of Councillors and the Parliament of the Southern Common Market. This agreement signifies both parties’ commitment to advancing parliamentary dialogue towards a strategic partnership, facilitating economic integration between Africa and South America.
In a press statement following the agreement, Gamarra supported United Nations Security Council Resolution No. 2797, adopted on October 31, 2025, which endorses Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara within the autonomy initiative framework.
