US Congressional Delegation Visits Morocco for Defense Talks

Accra:A US Congress delegation led by Mike Rogers has concluded a working visit to Morocco. During the visit, discussions centered around the long-standing relationship and cooperation between Morocco and the United States, particularly in the military sector.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the National Defense Administration highlighted the strong historical ties between the two nations and their commitment to further strengthening these relations. The meeting underscored the significance of the 2026-2036 military cooperation roadmap signed in April, which is part of the ongoing defense collaboration. This cooperation is further exemplified by the regular meetings of the Defense Consultative Committee, frequent exchanges of visits by senior officials, and the annual “African Lion” exercise that enhances the interoperability of participating nations’ armed forces, especially those of African countries.

During the discussions, Moroccan officials praised the United States for its support of Morocco’s sovereignty over its territory and the Sahara. They also acknowledged the constructive efforts by the US to resolve related disputes definitively. Additionally, Morocco’s initiatives for South-South cooperation and regional integration were highlighted as key to fostering stability and prosperity across Africa.

The US Congressional delegation recognized Morocco’s significant role in regional stability and peace under the leadership of King Mohammed VI. Both parties expressed a mutual desire to deepen their strategic partnership, particularly in defense, cybersecurity, and space, signaling a commitment to strengthening cooperative relations in these areas.
