Rabat: The Supreme Council of Ulema has announced the Zakat Al-Fitr amount for the year 1447/2026, setting it at 25 dirhams. The council also mentioned that individuals are welcome to contribute more than the specified amount if they wish.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the council’s statement clarified that Zakat consists of offering one prophetic Sa, an Islamic measure equivalent to approximately 2.5 kilograms of grain or flour, based on the staple food consumed by the community. The council also confirmed that it is permissible to pay Zakat Al-Fitr in cash.
Zakat Al-Fitr, an alms-giving tradition marking the end of Ramadan, serves as a symbol of solidarity within Islam. It is a sunna that every Muslim must fulfill before Eid Al-Fitr, with the option to pay it up to three days in advance. The obligation extends to the fasting person, who must pay on behalf of all individuals under their care.
