17th MEDays International Forum Emphasizes Africa’s Strategic Challenges and Opportunities


Tangier: The 17th MEDays International Forum concluded after four days of extensive discussions in Tangier, organized under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI. The event featured around 50 sessions focusing on major geostrategic issues, particularly the challenges and opportunities facing Africa and countries of the South.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Amadeus Institute President Brahim Fassi Fihri highlighted the success of this edition, marked by ‘fruitful, respectful and sincere’ debates. He emphasized that the Forum was an opportunity for the countries of the South to ‘look the North straight in the eye, with no complexes nor compromise.’

President of the Union of the Comoros Azali Assoumani remarked that the chosen theme resonated strongly in a global context where certainties are diminishing, inequalities are increasing, and the vulnerabilities of small states are becoming more apparent.

President of the Commonwealth of Dominica Sylvanie Burton affirmed her country’s support for Mor
occo’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, praising King Mohammed VI’s leadership and Morocco’s significant role in the region. She noted that the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2797 reinforces the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative and highlights the growing international consensus recognizing the Moroccanness of the Sahara.

Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda Gaston Browne described the Forum as a significant moment, emphasizing Morocco’s central role in Africa’s development and the importance of social cohesion and solidarity among nations to restore global balance.

Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre commended Morocco’s role in promoting dialogue, development, and cooperation in Africa and the Global South, reaffirming Morocco’s commitment to supporting exchanges and collective solutions.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of So Tomé and Príncipe, Ilza María dos Santos Amado Vaz, praised Moroccan diplomacy’s performance, which led to the recent UN resolution on the Moroccan Sahara, and highlight
ed the cooperation quality between her country and Morocco.

Niger’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Bakary Yaou Sangaré lauded the Royal Atlantic Initiative, which offers landlocked countries access to the Atlantic, illustrating cooperation based on solidarity and a shared future vision. He also emphasized the adoption of Resolution 2797, which supports Morocco’s autonomy initiative as a solution for the Sahara issue.

Moroccan Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment, and Skills, Younes Sekkouri, stressed the need for innovative solutions to current dilemmas, highlighting Morocco’s contributions to the region and the world. Minister of Industry and Trade Ryad Mezzour urged African countries to believe in their capabilities and rethink investment strategies to assert themselves globally.
