Istanbul: The 40th ministerial session of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC-COMCEC) commenced on Monday in Istanbul, presenting an opportunity to enhance economic integration among Islamic countries, according to Industry and Trade Minister Riad Mezzour.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Mezzour emphasized that the 40th OIC Standing Committee meeting is occurring amid significant transformations in trade relations between Islamic countries. He highlighted the need for increased solidarity among Islamic nations to strengthen economic and commercial integration and protect investments, especially in light of emerging protectionist regimes worldwide.
Mezzour further elaborated that COMCEC is focusing on several projects and conventions under its 2016-2025 action program. These initiatives, which include dispute settlement and the harmonization of norms and standards, are expected to significantly boost trade among OIC memb
er countries.
The session was inaugurated by Turkey’s President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, alongside OIC’s Secretary-General, Houssine Ibrahim Taha. The 40th COMCEC session aims to assess progress on the OIC’s 2016-2025 Action Program and explore the impact of global economic developments on member countries. It will also address intra-OIC trade and the enhancement of the private sector’s role in economic cooperation.
