The European Union today expressed regret at today Israeli police eviction of an elderly Palestinian family from its homes for decades in Jerusalem’s Old City for the benefit of Jewish settlers.

‘We regret the decision by the Israeli authorities, following a court decision, to evict the Ghaith-Sub Laban family from the home they occupied since 1953 in the old city of occupied East Jerusalem,’ said the EU in a tweet.

‘Currently, more than 10 Palestinian families face eviction lawsuits in the old city of Jerusalem,’ it added, urging ‘the Israeli government to respect international law and let these families live where they have been living for decades.’

Nora Gheith, 68, and her husband, Mustafa Sub Laban, 72, were forcibly removed from their home in the Old City of Jerusalem early this morning by Israeli police, who turned it over to extremist Jewish settlers in what is described as a violation of international law that constitutes a war crime for displacing a family in occupied territory and replacing it with people from the occupying state.
