Interior Minister, General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, today chaired the Traffic Council meeting on Wednesday.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of Transportation, Mohamed bin Thamir Al Kaabi, Minister of Works, Ibrahim bin Hassan Al Hawaj, Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, Amna bint Ahmed Al Rumaihi and several undersecretaries and representatives of members of the Traffic Council.
The Interior Minister welcomed the council members, asserting the importance of continuing efforts to reinforce traffic safety for all road users to limit accidents, including fatal ones. The council approved the formation of a committee to study and analyse the recent fatal accidents to set solutions to promote road safety and reduce accidents through plans and programmes. He asserted the significance of using traffic technologies to regulate traffic flow on main roads.
The Works Minister thanked the Interior Minister for providing and developing e-services for the fast processing of traffic applications, such as online processing of minor accidents and car registration.
The meeting reviewed topics on the agenda, including privatising the parking meters after conducting a study to tackle the decision’s technical, legal and financial aspects. The council was also briefed on suggestions by the Works Ministry to deal with traffic jams and main roads development projects for better traffic flow.
The council was also briefed on the suggestions of the Works Ministry to develop roads leading to the Sports City project in the Southern Governorate. The Interior Minister affirmed that development projects cover the area. Thus, its roads should be developed.
The Transportation Ministry highlighted the Kingdom’s land transportation strategy, which is based on improving the reliability of public transportation services and encouraging people to use electric transportation in a way that enhances the Kingdom’s commitment to the Climate Change Convention, while the plan for the bicycle path was also reviewed.
The Interior Minister thanked the attendees for their efforts to promote traffic safety, highlighting the importance of fieldwork to promote ongoing readiness to monitor traffic flow.
