Rabat: National team head coach Walid Regragui announced on Sunday that Lions of the Atlas midfielder Azzeddine Ounahi will be unavailable for the rest of the competition.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Ounahi sustained an injury during training on Saturday. He is suffering from a calf tear and will not be able to play in this AFCON. Regragui shared this update at the post-match press conference following the Morocco-Tanzania match, which ended in a 1-0 victory for Morocco. The head coach mentioned that Ounahi will be sidelined for five to six weeks.
Regragui elaborated that the injury was not new, as it was an old injury Ounahi had previously sustained while in Girona. The coach expressed the impact of Ounahi’s absence, noting that the team has lost its technical leader. He added that the previous day’s match was challenging for the team, and they had to qualify for the next stage in honor of Ounahi.
