Rabat: Togolese Foreign Minister Robert Dussey lauded Sunday in Lungi, Sierra Leone, His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s Vision for the African Atlantic Gas Pipeline Project, which will notably strengthen regional integration and open up Sahel states as well as the countries of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, in a statement to the press on the sidelines of the 69th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Conference of Heads of State and Government, Togo’s foreign minister noted that the heads of state and government expressed their support for this Royal Vision as well as for the Kingdom of Morocco’s efforts on behalf of the countries in the region, particularly those in the Sahel, reaffirming Togo’s full support for this commendable initiative.

In this regard, Dussey congratulated the Kingdom of Morocco on this important initiative, noting that beyond its energy dimension, it will help create a corridor linking ECOWAS countries to one another and connectin
g them to European markets.

The Summit of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS member countries hosted the signing, Sunday in Freetown, Sierra Leone, of the Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) governing the development of the African Atlantic Gas Pipeline (AAGP) Nigeria-Morocco, an energy infrastructure project spanning nearly 6,800 kilometers designed to transport natural gas from Nigeria to Morocco, before connecting to the European gas network.
