Rabat: welcomes the historic initiative by His Majesty King Mohammed VI for the implementation of the African Atlantic Gas Pipeline, Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said Sunday in Lungi, Sierra Leone.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Ablakwa congratulated His Majesty King Mohammed VI on this initiative, expressing Ghana’s pride in being an active member within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). The Ghanaian foreign minister made these remarks during the 69th session of the ECOWAS Conference of Heads of State and Government.

Ablakwa emphasized that the gas pipeline has the potential to boost African integration significantly. He highlighted the essential role of infrastructure investment in Africa as a cornerstone for the industrialization of African countries, aiming to benefit the continent’s population.

The ECOWAS Summit of Heads of State and Government facilitated the signing of the Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) on Sunday in Freetown, Sierra Leone. This agreement governs the development of the African Atlantic Gas Pipeline (AAGP) Nigeria-Morocco. The energy infrastructure project, spanning nearly 6,800 kilometers, is designed to transport natural gas from Nigeria to Morocco and eventually connect to the European gas network.
