Rabat: “The Kingdom of Morocco is a key player and, as I have stated before, it is a cornerstone for all continental issues,” he said during a press briefing following his talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the AU Commission Chairperson emphasized Morocco’s significant role in supporting African causes, particularly in terms of security and peacebuilding in countries facing crises. He noted that Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, is a benchmark for African diplomacy and serves as a key interlocutor for African nations, given its active involvement in resolving crises on both continental and international stages.
He further elaborated that the African Union, especially the AU Commission, heavily relies on Morocco’s expertise and know-how, guided by the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. Ali Youssouf shared that his discussions with Bourita focused on critical issues concerning the African continent, including development, peace, stability, external shocks, and key challenges like energy, industrialization, and agricultural development.
Intra-African trade and infrastructure development were also significant topics on the agenda. Youssouf noted the difficulty in envisioning trade growth on a continental scale without adequate infrastructure. He mentioned that they were able to share their views on the future prospects for the African Union Commission and discussed strategies to achieve the continent’s objectives. He concluded by stating that at this stage, Africa must take a stance on global issues.
