Bahrain, UK discuss ways to bolster cooperation

London, Bahrain’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa met with the Mayor of the City of London Lord Vincent Thomas Keaveny.

The mayor is responsible for representing, supporting and promoting all aspects of the financial services sector in the United Kingdom, specifically in Greater London.

Shaikh Fawaz highlighted Bahrain’s regional and international achievements in financial services, as the Kingdom is considered one of the most important centers of financial technology and innovation in the Middle East, especially after the Central Bank of Bahrain won the Most Innovative Fintech Regulator of the Year by Fintech Galaxy for 2019.

He noted that the Kingdom topped the Middle East and North Africa countries in financial, trade and investment freedom, according to the “Heritage Foundation” index, and ranked fourth globally and second in the region in the Islamic Finance Development Indicator, according to the index of Refinitiv, a subsidiary of the London Stock Exchange Group.

Shaikh Fawaz added that Bahrain is developing economically after launching the economic recovery plan announced by the Cabinet headed by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in implementation of the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, which will enhance economic growth and advance the commercial, investment and industrial sectors.

The meeting discussed bilateral relations and ways of enhancing and consolidating them, especially in the areas of financial and banking services, investment and tourism.

The two sides reviewed the projects launched to support the financial services sector as well as the development of investment and tourism, and discussed cooperation and exchange of expertise and successful experiences in the fields.
