CAF Appeals Jury Decision Reflects Strict Application of Regulations in AFCON Final

Rabat: The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Appeals Jury’s decision to declare Senegal forfeited in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final, awarding a 3-0 victory to Morocco, underscores the organization’s commitment to strict rule enforcement. This decision was based on Articles 82 and 84 of the AFCON regulations.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, former Spanish referee Iturralde Gonz¡lez emphasized the importance of adhering to game rules during an appearance on the “El Larguero” program on Spanish private radio Cadena Ser. Gonz¡lez mentioned that participation in any sporting competition entails a full acceptance of its governing rules, which are meant to be respected.

Gonz¡lez specifically pointed out the clarity of CAF’s regulations, particularly Article 82, which states that any team leaving the pitch before the end of a match without the referee’s authorization is declared the loser. He remarked that teams are informed of these rules at the beginning of the competition and must accept their implications, suggesting that the decision is in line with the logical application of the game’s laws.

The CAF Appeals Jury’s decision highlights the organization’s strict adherence to its regulations, maintaining the integrity of the competition by upholding a structured and rule-based approach to the sport.
