Santa Maria:President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Patrice Motsepe commended Moroccan football for its achievements on the international stage during the CAF Strategy Conference in Santa Maria, Cape Verde. Motsepe noted Morocco’s role in enhancing the sport’s prominence across Africa.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Motsepe expressed pride in the African national teams’ performance at the 2026 World Cup, asserting that it demonstrated the high quality of football in Africa. He highlighted Morocco’s World Cup run in Qatar as a significant moment in African football history.
Motsepe encouraged African football federations to continue investing in training, academies, and youth development. He emphasized his ambition for an African team to win the World Cup and urged member associations to start preparations for upcoming international tournaments.
Additionally, he addressed the need for strengthening transparency, integrity, and credibility in refereeing, which he believes is crucial for the sport’s promotion. He advocated for enhanced training for referees and Video Assistant Referee (VAR) operators to improve competition quality, underscoring the importance of translating governance and development commitments into tangible actions and results.
The CAF Strategy Conference, which gathers representatives from 54 member associations and various African football officials, focuses on reviewing reforms, development priorities, and the performance of African teams at the 2026 World Cup, with a view to future international competitions.
