Rabat: Cambodia has affirmed its support for the Moroccan Autonomy Plan, as well as the Kingdom’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, according to a Joint Communiqué issued by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Prak Sokhonn. This announcement followed a videoconference meeting between the two officials.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the meeting highlighted Cambodia’s endorsement of the Moroccan Autonomy Plan, which has been a significant achievement under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. The Cambodian government praised Morocco’s efforts to reach a negotiated political solution to the regional dispute regarding the Moroccan Sahara, which was initially proposed by Morocco in 2007. Prak Sokhonn reiterated Cambodia’s full support for the Kingdom of Morocco’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The communi
qué further detailed Cambodia’s acknowledgment of Morocco’s “serious, realistic and credible efforts” to resolve the regional dispute. Cambodia also expressed its full support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his Special Envoy, which are aligned with the relevant Security Council resolutions on this issue.
Both countries emphasized their commitment to shared values of peace, security, and stability. They collectively rejected separatist agendas that threaten the sovereignty and territorial integrity of UN member states. The Joint Communiqué also noted the comparable threats posed by separatist entities to political security and stability, likening them to the threats from terrorist and extremist groups, highlighting the recognized connections between separatist groups and terrorist organizations worldwide.
Cambodia’s clear support for Morocco’s autonomy plan and sovereignty over the Sahara aligns with the stance of the majority of the international community, which endorses Morocco’s legitima
te position on the Sahara issue.
