Casablanca: The National Airports Office (ONDA) has commissioned a state-of-the-art Airport Operational Center at Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca, marking a major step forward in the operational organization of Morocco’s first airport.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the new strategic center will play a key role in ensuring smoother airport operations during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and other major international events that Morocco is set to host in the coming years.
The center serves as a central hub for supervision and coordination, bringing together all major stakeholders involved in airport operations within a single, shared space. These include services under the Ministry of the Interior, the National Police, the Royal Gendarmerie, the Customs and Indirect Taxes Administration, airlines, ground handling companies, the airport operator, air navigation and air traffic control services, as well as maintenance and IT teams.
Operating around the clock, 24 hours a day and seven days a week, the center now acts as the nerve center of the airport, overseeing all key operational processes. Its scope covers aircraft operations planning and coordination, runway and parking stand management, ground traffic control, baggage flow for departures and arrivals, resource monitoring, passenger journey coordination, congestion management at security checkpoints, and boarding procedures.
The center also integrates the management of mobility, traffic and parking, the monitoring of critical infrastructure and maintenance operations, in addition to the operational coordination of safety and security systems.
For passengers, the center translates into shorter waiting times, a smoother travel experience and access to real-time information. Airlines, for their part, benefit from improved resource coordination, fewer delays and enhanced overall operational efficiency.
